Three questions here, then twenty minutes on the phone and an honest indicative range — including when it is lower than you were hoping.
We will not put a number on this page. Anyone quoting you a multiple before they have looked at your client book is guessing, and the number always moves at heads of terms. Asking costs you nothing and exposes you to nobody: no buyer is contacted and nothing is published unless and until you ask us to.
Before you ask
Because any number produced without looking at your client book is a guess, and the ones you see quoted are usually higher than what practices actually change hands for. A figure that gets revised down at heads of terms wastes six months of your life. We would rather give you a real range on the phone, including when it is lower than you hoped.
No. There is no retainer, no exclusivity, and no obligation to instruct us afterwards. Plenty of people call two years before they sell, and that is sensible.
No. Nothing is published, no buyer is contacted, and your firm is not mentioned to anyone — including Practice Group — until you tell us to.
How much of the income genuinely recurs, how dependent the clients are on you personally, the mix of compliance and advisory work, your staff, whether you have engagement letters in place, and how long you will stay to hand over. Several of those are fixable before you go to market, which is the main reason to call early.
Said on the first call, not at heads of terms
Practice Group buys and runs accountancy practices, and it is part of the same group as Practice Brokers. Every broker in this market has favoured buyers. Most never mention it.
Say the word and Practice Group never sees your file — and nothing else about how we work for you changes.
Practice Group sees no other offer before making its own, and every offer you receive is put in front of you in the same format.
We are paid identically whether you sell to Practice Group or to anyone else. There is nothing in it for us to steer you.
